Aussies Spoil Pets over Partners on Valentine's Day
Love is in the air for pet owners after a recent poll undertaken by VetShopAustralia.com.au has revealed that pets are becoming the newest "special someone" to be spoilt this Valentine's Day.
Respondents of the valentine’s day poll have poured their hearts out to their pets with 81% of respondents surveyed admitting they say 'I love you' to their four legged friends on a regular basis and 77% of people suggesting they kiss their pets to show their love.
Respondents also believed a way to their pets heart was through their stomach with 92% of those surveyed answering they like to buy their pets treats on Valentine's Day.
A large number of pet owners chose a more practical way to spoil their pet this Valentine's day with 82% answering they like to walk their pet to show some love and 72% revealing they also brush and bath their pet as part of their Valentine's Day celebrations.
Dr Mark Perissinotto, head vet at VetShopAustralia.com.au thought it was no surprise that pets were now falling in the "special someone" category with a growing trend supporting pets to have now commonly become substitute children and favourite companions for many.
"Pets are extremely loyal and loving creatures, which is why many people have found a best friend in a dog or cat and choose to spoil them on Valentine's Day," Dr Perissinotto said.
He also explained that with the constant love pets provide all year round, it seemed people were now giving them the recognition they deserved.
"Our pets’ love for us is unconditional so they deserve plenty back in return, and what better time than Valentine’s to show how much we care for our furry companions."
Dr Perissinotto did however explain that it was important not to get too carried away in the moment and remember that the best way to really show the family animal how much you love them is with gestures to improve the pet’s overall quality of life.
