2018 Event

The Surfing Dog Championships 2018 was yet another fantastic afternoon filled with sunshine, perfect waves, dogs and plenty of people!

Huge crowds gathered around the rocks and beach at first point in Noosa Heads for the 3pm event to watch the hydro-hounds shred it up for the new ‘2018 Champion’ title.

With perfect conditions for the dogs and their humans, they were easily able to show off their moves and shred the waves for 40 minutes.

The official siren rang and the 8 dogs and their owners started the paddle out to the waves breaking just out from the beach at first point.

Eager to all catch their first wave, a set rolled through and it was Chris and Rama who beat the pack to be the first to catch a wave. Riding perfectly on the wave, Rama was able to show off his famous ‘backpack’ move right into the shore, which the crowd reacted too with loud cheer.

Next was a bit of a surprise to the competition, one of the SUP PUP Oz members and the smallest pup of the competition Luca came riding in on the next wave on a hydrofoil board. While looking much like a regular stand-up paddleboard, the hydrofoil has a large wing-keel bolted to the underside, lifting the board and its passengers into the air as it gains speed. Truly stunning to watch and hugely appreciated by the thousands of spectators.

As sets continued to roll through, Jonesy with his daughter Opal and pooch Hugsley were up next! They showed off some awesome tandem surfing with Opal riding in on Jonesy shoulders and Hugsley hanging 10 on the tip of the board.

Following was new comer Pork Chops the British Bulldog and his owner Sam showing perfectly how to shred the waves!

Another new comer Rob and his pooch Spike who travelled all the way from Melbourne for the event, showed us just how to ride the perfect wave with your pup.

Team IndiAnna with Caitlyn and Zane were hard to miss in their bright pink leis, they showed off more great skills riding in together on a party wave.

Cruising along next was Jacquie and her pup Chester followed by Dan, his daughter and his pup Bella who showed of their mad carving skills on the longest riding waves of the day!

Wave after wave the dogs and their owners carved it up showing off their skills, however there could only be named one winner!

Team Spike and his owner Rob were crowed winners of the 2018 Surfing Dog Championships. Their amazing SUP and surfing skills were a sight to see and could not be faulted!

From the team at VetShopAustralia and our co-sponsors Simparica, we’d like to thank all of the new and previous competitors for their huge effort, and for putting on an absolutely amazing and skilled display of dog surfing.
