Get to know the superstar hydro hounds that will be competing in the 2021 Surfing Dog Championships
Anna is a 7 year old Border Collie who in previous years has competed alongside her 12.5 year old sister Indi, winner of the 2017 Best Wave Award who has since retired. The stylish duo are instantly recognisable in their Hawaiian lei's and love anything to do with water - the beach, a river, even a puddle will do! Anna rides with owners Caitlin and Zane.

Ball-obsessed Banjo is an 8 year old Kelpie who has been surfing with owner Chris since he was just 1 year old. A seasoned competitor and winner of the 2019 Best Wave Award, Banjo loves spending time with his family at the park or the beach.

5 year old Cooper is our biggest competitor weighing in at a solid 42kg. Taking up surfing was a natural progression for the water loving Golden Retriever who enjoys accompanying owner Jay out on the boat as well as on the board.

Hugsley Sebastian Jones aka The Slug. The 11 year old Spanador (Spaniel X Labrador) is never far away from a stick, or his family, including siblings Opal and Huey, who often join Hugs with owner Jonesy on the board. The 2020 winner of the coveted Best Wave Award returns to the water in 2021 to see if he can keep his crown.

New to the surfing dog pack this year is 2 year old Groodle (Golden Retriever x Poodle) Poppy who will be joined on the board with owner Michele. Poppy has been training hard since 2020 and is determined to make a good first impression.

Crowd favourite Porkchops will once again be making the journey up from the Gold Coast with owner Sam to compete in 2021. The British Bulldog will turn 6 one week before the competition and is an accomplished business owner and long distance runner. When not hanging out with his brother Dia, an imposing Belgian Malinois, Porkchops loves to play on the beach, go on hikes or ride on the jetski.

Fierce competitor Rama is always one to watch out for when he takes to the waves in the Surfing Dog Championships. Rama's owner is none other than former World Tandem Surfing Champion, Chris de Aboitiz, also a renowned dog trainer. In 2020, Rama and Chris were joined on the board by Jacqui, wowing the crowd with their tandem surfing tricks. Will it be enough to win them the Best Wave Award in 2021?

Dedicated competitor Spike makes the trek all the way from the calm waters of Port Phillip Bay in Melbourne to compete in the Surfing Dog Championships every year. Spike took up surfing with his owner Rob after being adopted from the Lost Dogs Home in 2014 and has been competing in the Surfing Dog Championships since 2018 when he took out the Best Wave Award.

A last-minute entry in 2020, William and owner Eliza will be back in 2021 to show off their surfing skills. William is a passionate fisherman and started surfing when realised the board could take him out to sea to spot the bigger fish! A Noosa local and food enthusiast, William can often be spotted ambling down Hasting street taking in the sights, sounds and smells.

Former surfing competitor Sage, an 8 year old Border Collie, will once again dazzle the crowd with her amazing acrobatic tricks when she performs with owner Dan just before the surfing takes place. In 2020, Dan surfed with tiny Woody and has put the call out for a budding surfer dog to join him on the board in 2021.
