Advocate for dogs

Did you know that if you give your pet oral medications, such as chews or tablets, fleas must bite your pet and ingest their blood to be exposed to the medication that will kill them?
In fact, fleas must keep feeding until they have ingested enough of the medication from your dog’s blood to be killed. EWWWWW right?

As dog owners it’s our responsibility to protect our dogs from danger and discomfort. But sometimes it's the smaller problems that can end up really causing them misery. Yes, fleas are small and can often be overlooked, but they can cause big problems. For example, did you know that a single flea can stay in one place on your dog for 3 hours, biting your dog and feeding on their blood?

Flea protection for your dog comes in two main forms. Products that work from the inside like tablets and chews and ones that work on the outside, like Advocate. Products that work by circulating the medication in your dog's blood can be given as a chewable treat which sounds great right, but when fleas land on your dog, they absolutely must bite to be killed. In fact, fleas must keep feeding until they’ve taken up enough of the medication from your dog's blood before they start to die.

On the other hand, products like Advocate work on the outside of the dog. With Advocate, when fleas land on your dogs skin and hair, the moment they come into contact with the medication it starts to kill them,, first by making them uncoordinated, and then they die.

Advocate kills fleas without them having to bite and feed on your dog.

And as an added bonus, Advocate also protects against intestinal worms and deadly heartworm - how great is that! We love our dogs and just want to protect them so it just makes sense to use a product like Advocate.

How does Advocate work?

An easy-to-use spot-on, Advocate is applied monthly to both help rid your dog of existing parasites and provide ongoing protection. The powerful ingredients in Advocate provide fast relief from fleas, prevent deadly heartworm and help protect your dog and your family from most intestinal worms including roundworms, hookworms and whipworm.

Protection Against Fleas

The active ingredient effective against fleas, imidacloprid, spreads across your dog’s skin and coat within 12 hours. After this time, re-infesting fleas are affected within 3-5 minutes of contact with your dog, and killed within 1 hour. Unlike chewable tablets, the active ingredient is not absorbed into your dog’s bloodstream, so fleas are killed on contact without the need for a blood meal. As your dog naturally sheds their skin and fur, tiny imidacloprid crystals are also shed into the environment, killing flea larvae, and breaking the flea lifecycle.

Comprehensive protection from intestinal worms

Most wormers only kill adult worms in the intestines at the time of treatment, but this doesn’t solve the problem. Larvae migrate through your dog’s body causing damage, and along with the immature adults, soon mature into adults, not only causing harm to your dog, but also leading to environmental contamination from egg shedding before the next treatment. This puts you and your family at risk too!

Advocate not only kills adult roundworms and hookworms, but also immature adult and larval stages of these worms, breaking the lifecycle. What’s more, Advocate kills all species of important intestinal nematode worms found in Australian dogs, unlike many other products, providing comprehensive protection from these worms.

Directions for use

Before applying Advocate, make sure your dog is standing during treatment. Remove your dog’s collar, and put it back on after the product is dry - except if your dog is wearing a Seresto collar. You don't need to remove it when applying Advocate. Avoid applying the treatment near the eyes or mouth area as this may cause irritation. Bathe your dog before application, and apply Advocate when your dog is completely dry.
