What’s the difference between the longest acting flea and tick products for dogs?

The longest-lasting flea and tick products on the market today are Bravecto Chewables and Bravecto Spot On. Both contain the active ingredient fluralaner and provide protection against fleas, paralysis ticks, brown dog ticks, ear mites and Sarcoptes mites. Bravecto chew will defend your dog against paralysis ticks for 4 months, protect your dog from fleas for 3 months and provides 8 weeks protection against both brown dog ticks and bush ticks. Bravecto spot-on provides 6 months of protection against fleas and paralysis ticks and 12 weeks defence against brown dog ticks. Bravecto spot-on also controls flea tapeworms and can help relieve the symptoms of flea allergy dermatitis.

 

What’s the difference between the products for dogs with the widest coverage?

Simparica Trio and NexGard Spectra protect your dog from the widest range of parasites including fleas, paralysis ticks, intestinal worms and heartworm to give you the peace of mind that comes with knowing your best friend is protected from some of the most common parasites. Simparica Trio combines sarolaner (found in Simparica) with the ingredient moxidectin, which is the same ingredient in the heartworm injection that vets give. Simparica Trio will protect your dog from fleas, paralysis ticks, brown dog ticks, roundworm, hookworm, and prevents heartworm infections for five weeks (35 days). NexGard Spectra, which is also a monthly chew, kills fleas, protects against bush and brown dog ticks, paralysis ticks, roundworm, hookworm, whipworm, prevents heartworm disease and defends against Demodex mites, Sarcoptes mites and ear mites.

If you live anywhere along the east coast of Australia, it is imperative that you protect your dog from the potentially fatal paralysis tick. There are a number of products on the market that can protect your pooch from paralysis ticks, and defend against a number of other parasites as well. Chewable products include Bravecto Chewables, The Big 5 Protection Pack, NexGard Chewables, NexGard Spectra and Simparica. If your dog isn’t a fan of the chewable products, spot-on protection is available with Bravecto Spot On, Advantix, Frontline Original and Frontline Plus. All of the chewable and spot-on products also kill fleas, but the length of time your pet is protected from fleas and paralysis ticks can vary with the same product, so be sure to read the instructions carefully.

 

What’s the difference between all of the products that protect my dog against tapeworm?

Tapeworms are among the most common types of worms that can infect your dog. Your dog can pick up tapeworms from coming into contact with the faeces of infected animals, eating infected prey like mice or lizards and they can even get tapeworm from fleas. Even worse, tapeworm is a zoonotic disease which means that it can be passed from animals to humans. Yuck! Protecting your dog against tapeworms is your first line of defence in protecting your family from tapeworms as well. But tapeworm isn’t treated by the same ingredient that treats other intestinal worms, so you must ensure you are selecting a product that will cover your dog for tapeworms. This can be in the form of a topical spot-on treatment such as Bravecto Spot On, or a chewable like The Big 5 Protection Pack or Sentinel Spectrum. If you just want to treat your dog for worms and aren’t worried about fleas or ticks, you can use allwormer products such as Drontal, Aristopet, Milbemax, ParaGard and Cazitel. Virbac tablets treat only tapeworm infestations and nothing else if that is all your pet requires.
